It’s official the Western Australian Government has just announced that they will begin culling sharks, by setting baited drum lines to catch large sharks within one kilometer of the shore. This is a terrible day for sharks in Australia. Official statement: http://tinyurl.com/p9t9c5r
I’m going to get way off topic here. I have vowed not to make this a forum for my political,or religious views, or a shameless self promotion, But… This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen! Not because I’m a Surfer but because Wildlife management is an important issue to me. Disney did a wonderful job of humanizing animals with Bambi. But the undeniable truth is nature is not like that. Herds become over populated during bountiful years and suffer starvation and dehydration during periods of drought. Recreational hunting and fishing are but one of the many aspects of wildlife management as well as periodic culls. White Pointers, Great Whites whatever you choose to call them are predators and pose a serious threat to humans. Sorry wolverxne, not having a go at you personally.
don’t go in the water then.
Would you walk through a plain in Africa where there are lions, leopards everywhere? I don’t think so.
Humans kill millions of sharks every year. Sharks kill less than 10 people per year worldwide.
And between killing off great whites is going to destroy the whole marine ecosystem which humans have already fucked In the first place.
Okay so something I don’t think you get is that there have been many shark attacks over in WA in the past year. And yes only 10 deaths may be caused by sharks but people have still been attacked and the humans have therefore been damaged for life. So its not about how many people they may or may not have killed. It’s about how they are a threat to human society.
How many sharks are killed by humans every year? Millions. But as soon as a shark kills a human everyone loses their fucking minds. ITS THEIR TERRITORY. They’ve been in there muchlonger than humans have existed for. You take the risk when you get Into the water.
And there are much better ways of controlling them then culling them. It’s just a knee jerk reaction from a stupid money hungry government.
Wolverxne You are totally right. I don’t get why these bumfucks think that humans are more important than animals; even though we humans, ARE animals. The oceans were meant for these beautiful creatures to swim freely in bountiful numbers. It is our fault that we decide to put ourselves in a situation where we know there are predators waiting. Humans can be the most self-centered, vicious, vile, disgusting creatures sometimes. I fucking hate when people think humans are the most dominant living thing, when in fact, we aren’t. The sooner people realize that, the sooner the world will be more at peace. Rant over.
